Ready Children Consulting
Parent Survey of Incoming Kindergarten Students
Northwest Early Learning, in partnership with county early learning coalitions, is embarking on its second year of surveying parents at kindergarten registration to learn more about how to support early learning.
If you are a school district staff member or parent, please contact the staff conducting kindergarten registration at your school to see how you can participate!
Northwest Early Learning thanks the Early Learning Committee of the Children's Commission of Snohomish County for spearheading the survey update and translations.
A half-page cover letter to parents can be used to explain the project.
Parent Survey Report
The parent survey report for 2008 for Skagit County was developed by Bess Windecker-Nelson with the support of Thrive by Five and Department of Early Learning funding. This report shows support to families and needed services and can be downloaded in a PowerPoint presentation. Click here.
2007 Parent Survey Report
Analysis of the over 1200 returned surveys offered a first look at a region-wide investigation of children’s experiences prior to entering kindergarten. We know from this survey that of the parents who responded to this survey, most children spend less than 20 hours in early learning environments, primarily attend preschool, and participate in predominantly preschool-type activities. Parents reported that they were unable to participate in preschool-type activities because of family limitations. Parents also reported early childhood environments to be the most supportive to their families while suggesting that additional language support and parenting information would be helpful in these early years. The Utsalady Elementary School had strong participation and were able to see more details about the early learning experiences of their incoming kindergarten students in the Utsalady Analysis.
